Sunday Run 29th March 2009 – To Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes!

sunday-run-29-mar-09Fellow Classic Car Enthusiasts,

Chiang Mai has an important, interesting & exciting event starting this coming Sunday 29th March – the ‘Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes’, so we’ve decided that as the opening day of this event coincides with our usual last Sunday of the month meeting date, we’d combine the two!

Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes is a truly international event, with 32 teams participating (including 3 ladies teams) from no less than 13 countries: Australia (8 teams); Bahrain (1 team); Bangladesh (1 team); China (1 team); England / UK (7 teams); Greece (1 team); Japan (1 team); New Zealand (2 teams); South Africa (1 team); Thailand (6 teams); United Arab Emirates (1 team); Vietnam (1 team) & last, but by no means least, Zimbabwe (1 team).

Play starts Sunday 29th March at the Chiengmai Gymkhana Club and the event runs daily, through to Saturday 4th April. Admission to this fun, exciting & fast moving spectator event is absolutely FREE and there’s a huge range for different food & drinks available from a variety of well known local restaurants (e.g. Dukes).

I appreciate that perhaps not everyone may understand cricket, but this is a major social event, so come for the fun & spectacle and no doubt there’ll be people there that are more than willing to help & explain how it all works! If you’d like to learn more about the Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes, click here. If you’d like to learn more about cricket & how Sixes Cricket works, click here and you’ll find explanations of ‘Cricket for Beginners’ and ‘Cricket – as Explained to Foreign Visitors’!

Each days play starts at 9am & finishes at 6pm. It’s a fast moving, exciting game – each side has 5 overs to score in – no time is wasted (e.g. 3 overs bowled from one end, then 2 from the other so time is not wasted moving the fielders around etc etc).

So, we meet at 10am at Ninety-Four Coffee at Nim City Daily / Rimping Airport Branch & socialise for an hour, before departing at 11am, to drive in convoy to Chiengmai Gymkhana Club. And that’s it – simple as that & people can stay to watch the cricket (and eat & drink) for as little or as long as they choose.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, for this fun & social day.

Yours in classic motoring,

Ian
